After a cancellation in 2020, E3 returned for 2021. I was hoping that the gaming firms would have enough time to put on a lively conference after such a long wait. Ubisoft’s presentation was bad at best, and it was terrible at worst. I’ll discuss what they could do to improve this as well as what they accomplished at the conference.
Several of the initiatives they already had received attention at the conference. Since adding to Assassins Creed might entice additional individuals to play the game, I’m relieved they’re doing it. Within the list of games revealed, Far Cry 6 piqued my interest. The villain was a lot more interesting to me. One of the most essential components of a tale for me is having a well-created villain, which may make it more interesting and engaging.
The fact that television programs and films are being shown at a gaming conference perplexes me the most. That was the most surprising aspect of the conference for me. It felt like it came from absolutely nowhere. If the shows were on a Ubisoft platform, it might be understandable, but this is not the case. Ubisoft seemed to be more interested in filling space than showing impactful games.
This demonstrates a larger problem with Ubisoft’s presentation: they didn’t demonstrate anything! They demonstrated sequels to games they previously released, as well as the addition of downloadable content to existing titles. Their audience has nothing new to get excited about. Consider how the Xbox event included both previously released titles and unique titles. This adds more options for the games and piques players’ interest.
What could Ubisoft have done differently? Examining successful conferences, such as Xbox and Devolver Digital, is one way to do it. Many games were demonstrated with Xbox. Halo was the game that they concentrated on the most. The Ubisoft conference seemed to have forgotten how to target its audience, it seemed Xbox understood how. The games were the focus of Xbox. It would have been startling if Ubisoft had just advertised their computers without warning, but that’s what they did. More developers could be worked with by Ubisoft in the future. This might help them stand out at the upcoming E3.
Ultimately, there are a variety of things that may be needed to spice up the conference.
